Doctor

Mark 2

The Gospel continues at a breakneck speed - Jesus teaches the Word to a large crowd that has gathered. A group wants to bring a sick man to Jesus, but the place is so crowded their only way in is to climb on the roof, open a hole, and lower the man down to Jesus.  Jesus is impressed with their faith and heals the man.  Next Jesus calls Levi, a tax-collector, to follow him.  There is now a band of disreputable people with Jesus (people hated tax-collectors) and people are taking offense to Jesus' crew.  But Jesus makes it clear, "who needs a doctor: the healthy or the sick? I'm here inviting the sin-sick, not the spiritually-fit."

The Word is not for those who have it together.  Once you get life figured out you are wasting your time! You've got to invite those who are sick with sin into your home.  You've got to reach out and teach those who have lost their way.  You've got to minister, not administrate!  Jesus came to heal the sick and he gives us a similar mandate.  Search out for those in need of healing.  Offer them Jesus so they might find a path back to health and wholeness.  Jesus is the doctor for those who need one.
